General information only — not legal advice. Search Solicitors is a directory and information resource, not a law firm. Laws and procedures vary across Australia and may change. Seek advice from an appropriately qualified Australian legal practitioner about your own circumstances. A listing is not an endorsement or a guarantee of qualifications, availability or outcomes.
6,327 records, across eight states and territories
Each count below represents a published directory record. A firm may have several office records, and an office may have several practitioners. A record does not confirm current registration, availability or that every listed service is offered at that location.

Provider types are different
The database includes firm offices and other kinds of legal-services providers. These labels are recorded classifications, not an independent check of a person’s qualifications or the work they are authorised to do.
| Classification | Records |
|---|---|
| Barrister | 74 |
| Community legal centre | 38 |
| Firm office | 5,317 |
| Licensed conveyancer | 897 |
| Migration agent | 1 |
Contact details need careful checking
At the snapshot date, 1,071 records carried a contact-identity review flag. These records receive a caution on their profile. The flag is a directory-data issue to resolve; it is not a finding about a provider’s conduct. Records without that flag are not guaranteed accurate either.
Confirm the person and contact channel independently before sending documents or money. For professional status, use the appropriate official pathway instead of relying on a directory entry.
Find official registration-check pathways →What these numbers cannot tell you
- How many lawyers practise in Australia or in a particular location.
- Whether a region has enough legal services, or how long appointments take.
- Which provider is best, cheapest or right for your circumstances.
- Whether an unlisted provider is unsuitable. The directory is not exhaustive.
A state with more records in our database does not necessarily have better access to legal help. Database coverage, office structure and service availability are different things.
Our method and its limitations
We read the public Search Solicitors directory view in pages of 1,000 records, ordered by the database’s listing identifier, and counted all 6,327 returned records. We grouped the recorded state and provider-type fields and counted the contact-review flag. Both tables total 6,327 records. We did not contact providers, check individual registers or survey users for this analysis.
The underlying provider records are shared with related directories; the aggregation and explanation on this page are our own. The snapshot does not automatically change with the directory. Live search counts may differ after records are updated, added or removed. We will date a replacement snapshot when the analysis is rerun.
Repeated names, descriptions and offices should not be interpreted as separate independent recommendations. A useful shortlist still needs a check of the specific person, service, scope and costs.
