Unsafe Products and Product Injuries
Do not keep using a product that may be unsafe. Product injury questions can involve the manufacturer, importer, supplier, workplace, hirer or maintainer, as well as state injury law and the Australian Consumer Law.
Make the product safe without destroying evidence
Disconnect or isolate the item if safe, keep all components and packaging, and do not repair, dismantle or return it before obtaining advice about preservation.
Record identity and supply chain
Photograph model, serial and batch numbers. Keep the receipt, listing, instructions, warnings, warranty material, communications and the names of any supplier or installer.
Check recalls and make an accurate report
Search the official Product Safety Australia recall database and consider reporting an unsafe product. A report or recall does not by itself determine a damages claim.
Identify overlapping pathways
A work injury involving equipment may engage workers compensation and a third-party claim. Imported goods, hired equipment and later modifications can change the investigation.
