Australia has no single CTP claim process. Crash location, vehicle registration, fault, unidentified vehicles, work travel and injury severity can change the insurer, benefits, notices and damages pathway. Use the relevant state or territory guide before relying on a general deadline.
Identify the claim pathway
Identify the crash jurisdiction, every vehicle and insurer, whether police reporting is complete, and whether work travel or a no-fault catastrophic injury scheme overlaps. Treatment or income benefits can use different tests and dates from common-law damages.
Preserve useful evidence
Keep crash and police references, registrations, driver and insurer details, photographs, dash-camera material, witness contacts, rideshare or public transport records, clinical documents and earnings evidence. Request time-sensitive footage promptly where appropriate.
Compare the proposed legal service
Ask which CTP stages the retainer covers, how early notification will be handled, who investigates fault, when expert evidence may be needed, and how statutory benefits, damages and any workers compensation claim will be coordinated.
