What a result tells you—and what it leaves open

Start with the record type

The index includes law practices and other legal-service providers. A business name containing legal terminology is not enough to identify the provider's role. Read the classification, then verify the current credentials relevant to the work. This site's name does not mean every result is a solicitor or that it has independently checked professional registration.

Look for the source of each impression

An attractive description, a long list of services and a prominent position can all influence a first impression. None establishes suitability. Results use the directory's featured status, record quality and name ordering; record quality is not a measure of legal skill. An office address describes a published location, not a travel-time promise or a restriction on where clients may live.

Treat missing detail as an open question

If meeting modes, availability or a check date are absent, ask the office rather than filling in the gap yourself. Contact-review notices mean the displayed identity information needs further checking and contact links are withheld. Do not guess an email address or use a similarly named organisation as a substitute. A directory record can be useful while still having important limits.

Finish with an independent check

Before engaging a provider, confirm its identity, current credentials, service scope, fees and ability to accept the work. Agree how documents should be supplied.
